Alfred Nobel, inventor of dynamite, had a bizarre and life-changing experience. When his brother Ludvig died, a French newspaper printed Alfred’s obituary by mistake. And it called him “the merchant of death.” It also said that Nobel had gotten rich trying to kill more people, and in faster ways. As the story goes, Nobel was so upset by that legacy that he decided to endow the Nobel Prizes.
